YAMINI NAYAR is an artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Her works intersect with sculpture, collage and photography to foreground dimension, materiality and form within the image. The body is central as she inhabits each work with found materials. Yamini works in the tension of spatial form, the body and the photograph.
In her studio-based practice, large-scale photographs are made from built assemblages, often life-sized, in which the photograph is the only trace of an invested physical construction process. Her works are made from easily accessible materials - paperboard, pigment, wire, string, photographic elements. This is paralleled in the pigment print of the photograph itself. Rough materiality contrasts with intuitive forms compressed by the camera.
Points of departure extend from Yamini's research as an analyst-in-training at the CG Jung Institute of NY. Subject matter includes myth, primordial forms and the alchemical container.
